It's been a busy day for our little guy already today. First thing this morning they took him down for an echocardiogram to check his heart and make sure everything looks good- this is just routine for leukemia patients.
They've had numerous visits today from Doctors, Nurses, Social Workers, and Family Support. And lots of visitors from family and friends.
He got his first dose of chemo inserted into the spinal fluid during the procedure yesterday. He got another dose last night through his picc line. He will get oral doses today and tomorrow. They are hoping to be able to go home by Wednesday or Thursday. Then they will return for Chemo on Monday as outpatient. As long as his counts stay up, and there is no fever, he gets to stay at home. Any sign of infection, illness or fever, and he will return to PCMC just to be safe.
Once the results of the spinal tap and bone marrow are back (3-4 weeks), they will be able to adjust his chemo doses as needed. Right now they treat it very aggressively until they know more information from those results. Then they can up the chemo or lower it as needed.
Amber told me this morning that Reiss is mostly happy- with moments of grumpiness :) He still tells the Doctors and Nurses "Don't hurt me!" even though he feels no pain when they access his picc line. He also keeps on insisting to Amber "Mom! I am better now. I not coughing anymore!"
He has a few diet restrictions due to some low potassium levels, and pancakes are NOT on the list of approved foods. He had a little melt down this morning, but agreed to switch it up for french toast! :) He must take after his auntie! :) That would be my choice too, Reiss!
