One month later...

One month ago this little boy's world was turned upside down. Amber and Kenny's world stopped. Things haven't been the same since. This sweet picture was taken by my good friend Mimi,  just days after he was diagnosed and still in the hospital. She has a heartbreaking story of her own. I don't know if my heart can handle any more heartbreaking stories. 

He looks so sweet and peaceful.

Yesterday's appointment was a big one! They started out at 8:00 am after a pretty rough night at Granny's house. Amber, Kenny Tayger and Reiss stayed in Heber Sunday night because they had to be at PCMC by 8:00 am.  Reiss just didn't know what he wanted and was in a lot of pain because of the sores in his mouth. Ouchie! Long story short, Papu was booted to the couch and Reiss "slept" in Granny's bed with her. Only no one really slept. Poor little buddy is pretty miserable.

Once they got to the hospital they went to the clinic for an IV since he didn't have his picc line. They needed the IV to give him his sleepy meds for the procedure as well as draw blood and give morphine for the pain. It seemed to take the edge off.  They gave him some meds to relax him before his surgery. Amber said he was pretty out of it. Kenny carried him down the hall and handed him over to the Dr. The Dr. got all the way down the hall and Amber realized she forgot to give Reiss his blankie. So the Dr. walked ALL the way back down the hall, with that big boy in his arms,  just to get the blankie. Cute! 

The surgery went well and the port is in place.

This is exactly what the port look like. It is completely underneath the skin. They use a numbing cream to numb the skin and then poke a needle right into the port to access it. It's pretty amazing and will be so much better than the picc line! 

Here is the schedule for the next plan of treatment:

1x a week for the next 8 weeks (just like they've been doing)

after 8 weeks they will go to every 2 weeks

BUT each visit will require a 3-4 day stay at the hospital  :(

His counts were good and ANC was great! Good news! 

He had his last dose of steroid on Sunday. 

Drs. said in the next week or 2 they should notice a reduction in his puffiness as well as overall demeanor.  Yay!!
