Today was treatment day for Reiss. It was scheduled to be a crazy day with clinic, RTU (lumbar puncture) and an ultrasound on his arm to check on the blood clot. His hematocrit was low, so he also had to have a blood transfusion today (takes 3 hours), which was unexpected and makes for a VERY long day. He also received a new type of Chemo that he hasn't had since he was in the hospital at diagnosis, called PEG. The first time he got it (at diagnosis), his body was fine with it and had no reaction, but this time, after about 15 minutes his face and eyes started to swell and he had an allergic reaction to the Chemo. The doctors said this is fairly common, but they need to closely watch him to make sure there are no further complications. SO after a very long day, with some unexpected bumps in the road, they have admitted Reiss to the hospital. He actually took over Presley's same room at PCMC that she was discharged from just yesterday. These poor babies just can't catch a break.
Just getting started on his visit at clinic... playing with some cars! |
The BEST news of the day is that his blood clot is totally gone and clear!!! He no longer needs to get the lovenox (blood thinner) shot! YAY!!
These next pictures are of his poor little swollen face from the allergic reaction. His eyes are really swollen and his cheeks are too. Thankfully he didn't have any respiratory complications and the swelling is already starting to go down. They will try again tomorrow, and if he reacts again, he will have to get it in the form of a shot... just 6 times over the 3 year course of treatment.
His poor little face so swollen from the allergic reaction. |
Prayers that he can go home tomorrow and will have no further complications from that darn chemo. I hate chemo. It is harsh, toxic and brutal... but it is saved the life of my mom 8 years ago, and is now saving the lives of 2 sweet kiddos that I love so much! Keep fighting little man! Auntie Erin loves you.
I love that he is trying to smile, even with a swollen face. What a brave little boy! xo's
ReplyDeleteAt least that cute kid is smiling through those swollen cheeks! Good luck little Reiss! Home all goes well with the stay! maybe he and Presley should hide little notes for each other!
